Good Samaritan Mission School of Uganda

Dear People of God,

Dear Sponsors and Friends, 

Father Frank was able to return to Uganda in August and accomplished a lot because of your generosity and support. The children, teachers, and community are extremely grateful for the support that is helping to change their lives.

With your generous donations the following were accomplished during the August mission trip:

1. A 4th classroom block (Montoya Hall) was constructed and finished during the August trip. The only thing remaining to do is stonework on the outside, painting, and desks.
2. There are currently 17 members on staff, including a cook, dormitory warden and security guard. These 17 staff members received their monthly salaries.
3. Four teachers attended the August Recess teacher training course.
4. The school is at full capacity with a cap of 500 children. All 500 students received a new school uniform.
5. New grades K-7th textbooks were purchased. New school desks were also purchased.
6. Each child receives breakfast and lunch every day. Some funds were used for Sports day and educational field trips.
7. The solar energy system was maintained and repaired.
8. Other repairs and renovations were done-gutter repair, painting, broken desks, etc. 
9. Over 700 children and adults were treated during the July Medical Clinic Camp.

Future School Projects:

1. New pit latrines: the latrines built long ago need to be replaced and moved further away from the new classroom block. The cost of new latrines would be $13,000.
2. Medical Camp expenses: the medical camp brings doctors and nurses monthly to treat the local population. The camp supplies medication and much needed treatement to the families of the area. The cost of the medical camp monthly is $4,000.
3. Hydro-electric power installation: Solar energy currently used has become costly to maintain. The solar panels are unable to charge especially during the long spells of tropical rainfalls. The cost of power would be $62,000.
4. School perimeter fence: For the children's safety and security, a fence around the entire campus is necessary. The cost of a fence would be $58,000.
5. School land for gardening: There are 6 acres of land near the school that would be used to grow the food that the children eat for breakfast and lunch. This will greatly decrease the amount of food needed to be purchased. The cost would be $60,000.
6. A new water-bore pump for water: An additional water bore pump is needed as there are long lines for fresh water from the one existing pump and the local population would be able to access the water.

Our most pressing needs at this time are for continued student tuition support, teacher salaries and training, and monthly medical camp expenses. 

Our most pressing needs for the future are for construction of the new pit latrines. 

We have been able to accomplish much with your continued prayers and support. The St. Teresa Good Samaritan Mission School has become an oasis for the families in the community, it has developed the children to the best potential they can be, and it has given joy and love to the people of Uganda. Your support has been the blessing behind all of these accomplishments and we are deeply grateful for your love and continued dedication.
